The TNC connector (Threaded Neil-Concelman), is a threaded version of the BNC Connector, a miniature quick connect/disconnect radio frequency connector used for coaxial cables. The TNC connector adapter is a 90 degree connector with an impedance of 50 ohms and operates at peak performance in the 0-11 GHz frequency spectrum. At microwave frequencies, the connector has better performance than its counterpart, the BNC connector. It was invented in the late 1950s by Paul Neill and Carl Concelman, hence its name, and has been used in a wide array of radio and wired applications.

There are two variations of the common TNC connector. The first is the reverse-polarity TNC configuration. As the name suggests, this configuration reverses the polarity of the interface. This reversal is done through incorporating the female contacts into the plug and the male contacts in the jack, opposite of the normal setup. These TNCs are commonly used by manufacturers of WiFi equipment because they are generally more compliant with regulations set in place by the FCC. The other configuration is the 75-ohm version. These connectors provide a higher standing wave ratio, around 1 GHz. Despite their higher power, 75-ohm TNCs are intermatable with standard 50-ohm types.
