Aircraft Avionics Parts - Top Aircraft Parts
Avionics include hardware and software involved in analog and digital networking on an aircraft. Avionics are incorporated on an aircraft for a multitude of purposes: communication, navigation, monitoring, flight-control systems, fuel systems, collision-avoidance systems, flight recorders, weather systems, aircraft management systems, and in-flight entertainment. Avionics also include systems that provide flight critical information to the pilot: electronic instrument displays and autopilot/ automated systems.
Standards
In addition to CFR specifications, avionics are held to additional standards due to their importance on aircraft. Aeronautics Radio Inc (ARINC) was formed to develop standards for avionics; Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) and the Open Systems Architecture (OSA) were created by the military to help regulate avionics components and systems.
Flight Control Avionics
Flight control systems manage a variety of monitoring and actuating tasks for flight control surfaces including elevators, ailerons, rudders, etc. The integrated cables stretch from the cockpit to control surfaces within the airframe. Flight control cables are assembled using a pulley system. Each system is spring loaded, which accounts for slack that occurs when the aircraft encounters varying temperature changes. Cabling for most flight control systems are stainless steel wiring bundles that are coated in a black vinyl casing.
Data-Bus
Data bus cables transmit digital signals between sensors and their corresponding display devices. Data bus cable structures often consist of a shielded, twisted-pair cable that is grounded at each end, and at every junction in the system. The most commonly used data bus system in civil aviation is the ARINC 429 — the technical avionics standard for data bus cables used in commercial aircraft. This system operates using a double helix wiring, which enables bi-directional transmission to request data and transmit data across a single cable.
